Hi Patty! I totally missed your post all this time! Your bergie is adorable. Have a neighbor in my community with one..only saw him (or could be her with helmet on!) ride it out the front gate...but don't know where they live in here. I loved my little 150cc Honda Elite back in the day! Though some motorcyclists do make fun of scooters, they DO get you street riding experience in traffic and weather conditions that are similar to motocycles so I am grateful for the 7 safe years on that scooter way back! I have a girlfriend or two that now are thinking of getting scooters after I got my sportbike....they want me to ride with them..but depending on what they get if they do..my GSX-R may not want to slow down to little scooter speed!

I also wanted to post that I set up a newbie group ride here in Napa for Sunday march 27th (if no rain) on BARF. I managed to get some experienced riders (including CU member AJ) to take out a few of us newbies for an easy spin upvalley and back.

So if anyone wants to ride with some newbies..check out the group rides on BARF (Ride with a Newbie in Napa) is the ride title but here is the link as well:

I am sorry to have missed the event yesterday but work commitments keep sucking up my weekends..BUT I will be at the April meeting..at minimum the meeting..perhaps maybe even do the ride depending on my confidence with riding by then!

Cheers!

Patty

Hi CU Ladies!

I wanted to ask if there is any specific plans for your April Ride/Meeting yet? I am guessing April 10th, right? I am just planning out my weekends and definitely want to make this..hoping to actually do the ride AND the meeting...will depend on how far away the ride is from where I live. Also..if it will be newbie friend and new to group riding friendly.

I have a group ride planned through BARF for April 3rd...was supposed to be today but I postponed due to rain. It is set up as a newbie ride..I managed to gather up some "veterans" willing to guide us newbies on a group ride up napa valley and back..easy ride up and back..most concentrating on basic riding and group skills. Hopefully will meet AJ on the ride as she planned to do today!

I actually did a ride today with my volunteer group leader for the ride..he took me up napa valley and back on our partial route for next week..first ride in teh rain! Woohoo..broke down that fear barrier. He was very encouraging and helpful and I had a great ride today!

Anyway..if anyone wants to join us next Sunday..please PM me for details.

Let me know any tentative plans/ride you have for the April meeting so I can figure out what I will do..ride or drive!

I look forward to finally meeting you ladies soon! I have only been living vicariously through your photo albums at what fun you are having on rides!!

Hi Patty. Sunday, April 10 will be Mines/partial Mt. Hamilton/Del Puerto Canyon/Patterson Pass and ending in Livermore. Our VP will have exact times posted very soon so everyone can plan their day.

Can't wait to meet you soon...

Thank you! I am not at all familiar with that route but will wait until it is officially posted hopefully with a map..and if it is newbie friendly. I may just ride out to the meeting site at least if the ride proves more twisty than I am ready for! We shall see!

Cannot wait to meet ya all soon!!

Unfortunately the 3rd is also the Tour De Bay which I already committed to weather permitting...now if you wanted to move it to Saturday, I'd totally be there!

Not sure yet if I will be up to the ride..but will definitely come to the meeting either way!!

Hi ladies! I am so jazzed today as I had my "virgin" twisties ride up in Berryessa today! It was so awesome up there! I had been psyching myself out of the twisties all this time..and I really had a great time. I was escorted by 3 BARF buddies who picked a newbie route knowing my lack of twisty time..and they picked a perfect route for me..and did not struggle at all! I hope to get up there a few more times before the Curve Unit ride...but I do look forward now to actually riding my own bike with you all next month!!

Weeee.......love love loving my ride!!

If anyone wants to head over to Napa to ride anytime..let me know. We just started a Napa biker breakfast Sunday today through BARF and it will now become a weekly thing!!

Hi Patty!

As you may have read, I graduated a couple of weeks ago to a ER6n (ie. nekkid Ninja 650) Clutch and shifter have been interesting. I like it because I feel more in control of the bike. But it is quite torquey too. I'm working on smoothing it out by May 15.

And if you should organize another noob friendly ride with BARF folks, I'd love to go. I work every other Saturday so hopefully it would be on one that I'm off or a Sunday.

Hi Patty! Yep...saw that you were now scooter to motorcycle! Feels like ages ago I was suffering from clutch/throttle psych out! It DOES get easier though I still suffer those brain cramps where I forget to hold the clutch in as I come to a stop! DOH! I think because I am retraining my brain to use both brakes again!
One thing that REALLY helped me was a few people telling me "ride the clutch" until you get really moving..that was my problem..I was trying to open the clutch too soon before I was really opening the throttle..so my friend made me buy a few extra clutch cables..figuring I would burn the clutches holding tight until I was ready. I also keep my feet down longer on take off until I am comfy with how I am moving. Also trying to put them down when I come to a stop sooner so I don't tip over if I grab too much brake by mistake and lose balance when I thrust foward. These little things have helped me be more confident with the bike.

I also finally hooked up my ipod to my chatterbox wiring in my helmet when I went on the twisties and the music helped me not overthink..just relax and move to the music. I was much more relaxed on my ride!

As for our Napa rides...like I mentioned, we just set up our first Sunday breakfast/ride yesterday..and plan to do it every Sunday. You are welcome to join us anytime.. If you join BARF and go to Social Gatherings section, you will find our weekly post. Not sure yet about this Sunday..if we have a few riders on Easter...may go out to Pt Reyes. Not too twisty..or if we have more newbies than usual..maybe just head up silverado to Calistoga and then down hwy 29. Easter Sunday is a little less busy in wine country!

Hope you can join us!!

Yes, I found BARF early in my motorcycle quest before I took the MSF. I'll make sure I hit that particular thread often. I'm still a little shaky with the shifting. I guess I've got the same standards as car shifting which might be a bit unrealistic. Trying to smooth it out a little bit. But it's really fun!

Hello Patties ;)
I just love reading about how much you 2 are gaining experience and facing your nervousness. You two make me want to run out and buy a 2 wheel tmorrow. But, I am luving my 3 wheels. I am learning to excellerate more on the curves and just feeling more and more comfortable. I road Mt Madonna Sunday with my dad it was perfect weather. I usually do last minute rides but I think I want to head out your way next time ;)

Hey Anamarie,
Maybe you and I can meet up and ride up to Napa and join Patty for a little ride. You can get out on the Byron Highway, meet me in Brentwood and off we'll go to American Canyon?

Just a thought.

ps.
Don't be too impressed. I'm still freakin' out about the speed/jump/shifting thing not at the right time......
Your CanAm is very cool. You like it, stay with it. When you want to, you'll make a change. As long as you are out in the air, breathing free and feeling free you are good. No pressure my friend.

Would love to have you ladies come out my way for a ride! There is alot of great riding out this way...and I need to do them! Since I have this big house all to myself now, I am more than willing to host some overnights if you don't feel like doing a roundtrip in one day ALONG with a ride!

This sunday is Easter...will still be riding...still deciding where. If you do not have plans to hunt for eggs and eat ham....come on over!!!
